Dogs Trust
We were visited by Stacey from the Dogs Trust today. She did an assembly with the whole school and then a workshop with each class.
We met her toy dog called Midnight and she taught us how to stay safe around dogs.
She taught us:
- Not to approach a dog when it is eating
- Don't disturb a dog while it is sleeping
- Ask a dog's owner first if you would like to stroke the dog. Once you have permission approach the dog slowly, let it sniff you and then stand next to it to smooth it
- Stroke a dog with the palm of your hand
- Play safe games with dogs and train them to drop the ball if you are playing fetch
- Stroke a dog from the top to the bottom of its back. Dogs don't like being touched on the head or tail
- If a dog approaches you, stay still and cross your arms across your body to stay protected if the dog jumps up
